The Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), officially the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), holds elections for self-governance, in which neither Barzani of the KDP nor Jalal Talabani of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) earned the majority vote. As a result, no president is elected; however, an eight-person Presidency Council is composed with equal representation for both the KDP and PUK.
