The Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, is founded at the beginning of the First Palestinian Intifada by Palestinian Islamic scholar Ahmed Yassin. Hamas is a political organization with a military wing (the Qassam Brigade) dedicated to acquiring all of former Mandatory Palestine (including Israel).

Hamas, while currently deemed a terrorist organization today, has adjusted its aims to reflect a two-state solution in which both Israel and Palestine co-exist.
