Sir Henry McMahon of Great Britain begins contacting the Sherif of Mecca, Hussein bin Ali, promising British support for an independent Arab state in exchange for Arab support against the Ottoman Empire in the First World War.

An agreement is made and the Ottoman Empire soon falls.
