Описание:

A primary advantage of the print book over the e-book was its portability- a standard paperback is little trouble to carry around and can fit easily in a bag, which was not the case for even the most lightweight and portable of laptops for most of their existence. However, the advent of small, portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, and e-readers changed this. The first e-readers appeared in the 1990s, and were deliberately designed to mimic the size and shape of a book (Galbraith, 2020). The early 2000s saw the rise of the smartphone, small multi-purpose devices which were easily portable and gave users access to the internet anytime and anywhere (provided that cell service was available).

In 2025, the vast majority of these handheld technologies are equal to or less than a book in weight and size, allowing an individual to carry an entire library’s worth of books in their pocket.

About the image: This image is of my hand holding my iPhone, which is displaying a 19th-century translation of the works of Hippocrates that I downloaded from Project Gutenberg. With the power of modern computing, I can now read these foundational texts in the history of medicine wherever and whenever I want!
