24 июн 1948 г. - Selective Service Act passed
Описание:
The Selective Service Act of 1948 is passed which authorized the federal government to expand the military through conscription, better known as a draft. This would take place both during times of foreign conflict and during peacetime and required all US men ages 18-25 to register for military service with the eligibility to be drafted for up to 21 months.
To avoid registration, one would have to be enrolled in college or receive a medical or psychological exemption. Some individuals were able to evade the draft through the influence of association with wealth. Until 1965, when President LBJ signs an executive order requiring married men to register, only unmarried men had to sign up.
