Originally only supposed to be a chapter in his second book "The Descent of Man", Darwin's work for this theory grew exponentially larger than he figured, resulting in him creating a book for the single theory altogether. Darwin becomes one of the first to propose the idea of shared emotions across man and animal, and that animals' behaviors could potentially evolve through natural selection.
