Herodotus (1 jan 484 ano antes da era comum – 1 jan 425 ano antes da era comum)

Descrição:

THE PHARAOH OF THE EXODUS. FAIRY TALE OR REAL HISTORY? by Gerard Gertoux

The first historian who investigated the history of Egypt was Herodotus31. Although he gathered much information on the most remote periods of Egyptian history it is interesting to note that he had not heard about the “war against the Hyksos”, nor their so-called expulsion by the Egyptians, but he wrote (c. 450 BCE) the interesting detail (The Histories II:128):

! Thus the affliction of Egypt endured for the space of 106 years, during the whole of which the temples were shut up and never opened. The Egyptians so detest the memory of these kings (during the reigns of Kheops and Khephren) that they do not even like to mention their names. Hence they commonly call the pyramids (in Memphis) after the shepherd Philitis (Salitis?), who then pastured his flocks in this place.

Herodotus was a Greek historian. He is widely referred to as “The Father of History” and was the first historian known to have broken from Homeric tradition to treat historical subjects as a method of investigation —specifically, by collecting his materials systematically and critically, and then arranging them into a historiographic narrative. His eye-witness accounts indicate that he travelled in Egypt in association with Athenians, probably some time after 454 BCE or possibly earlier, after an Athenian fleet had assisted the uprising against Persian rule in 460-454 BCE.
