According to Suetonius: Since the Jews constantly made disturbances at the instigation of Chrestus (The Live of Claudius XXV:4). Paulus Orosius reads: In the 9th year of his reign, Claudius expelled the Jews from Rome (A History, against the Pagans VII:6) and Cassius Dio: [in 50 CE] As for the Jews, who had again increased so greatly that by reason of their multitude it would have been hard without raising a tumult to bar them from the city, he did not drive them out, but ordered them, while continuing their traditional mode of life, not to hold meetings (Roman History LX:6,8).
