July Days (3 lugl 1917 anni – 7 lugl 1917 anni)

Between 3 and 7 July 1917, an uprising known as the July days took place.

This happened mainly due to the following causes:
1. The continuing shortages of food in the major 2. cities
3. The complete failure of the June Offensive
Effective Bolshevik propaganda against the Provisional Government

There was a demonstration held for the uprising, which involved the Bolsheviks.

However, the Petrograd Soviet didn’t support the demonstration, as other parties in the soviet didn’t trust the Bolsheviks.
The soviet leadership met with the leaders of the Prov Gov and agreed to work together.
On 4th July, a thunderstorm dispersed the crowds.
On the 5th of July, the government brought troops back from the front and asked them to surround Bolshevik headquarters.
Hundreds of Bolsheviks were arrested, including Trotsky. Lenin escaped and fled to Finland; his plan to overthrow the Provisional Government had failed.
