Golden Age (1 gen 1924 anni – 24 sett 1929 anni)
Descrizione:
The Golden age was born from the ashes of hyperinflation and the first world war.
Under the Kaiser, entertainment was tightly controlled and after the horrors of war and economic struggles, many people decided to try new things and embrace western culture.
Cinema and Radio became very popular - Fritz Lang was one of the most advanced directors of the time and Radio sales increased by 300% over 6 years.
The Nightlife became very attractive as Germany became the centre for plays, operas and vulgar songs were frequently performed (these were often political and critical of the government or society). In particular, Berlin became famous for its american jazz bands and nightclubs with transvestite nights or even naked dancers.
Literature and Art sold well and frequently was avant-garde showing the darker parts of society or criticising war or current events.
Design became very modern and simple/practical by Bauhaus students and industry recovered strongly with particularly American trade.
While many Germans embraced this golden age of freedom, many also believed it to be corrupt and sinful. They wanted arts and literature to reflect traditional German values and saw the golden age of Weimar Germany as moral decline - especially Berlin which was seen as sex-obsessed and corrupted.
