World War 1 (28 lugl 1914 anni – 11 nov 1918 anni)
Descrizione:
When the United States entered World War 1, a significant number of working men joined the military and went to Europe. To keep the country running and fill those positions, women took up these jobs that men ususally held and essentially ran the country. Furthermore, women supported the war effort by working new jobs in the defense industry, supplying the military with vital ammunition, supplies, and war machines. When the war ended, the government came to recognize that women were more capable as citizens than they originally thought, and as a kind of reward for their work they were awarded suffrage, marking a major victory for the women's rights movement. (Effect: women gained suffrage)
