1886-1955: American Federation of Labor - This union worked with only skilled laborers, and excluded women as well as African Americans. It had similar goals as previous organizations, but was more moderate, often working with the government to attack more extreme labor organizations. As a result, it remained prominent through the Gilded Age and both World Wars, eventually merging with the CIO.
