World War II is important to world history because, first of all, it allowed two new major superpowers to come into play: USA and Soviet Union. It also was the largest and bloodiest war in history, resulting in ~45 million deaths. Finally, it also was first war to really use dive bomber planes and aircrafts armed with machine guns.
