The first crusade was when Pope Urban 2 publicly called for a crusade to aid Eastern Christians and recover holy land. The first Crusade started 21 Nov 1096 and ended 2 may 1099. Pope Urban 2, Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus and Seljuk Turks were involved in the First Crusade. Pope urban 2 was involved because he controlled the crusade. Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus was involved because he asked the Pope for help against the Turks. The Seljuk Turks were the enemy to the Pope and his alies. The war was in Anatolia. It started because the Byzantine needed help to free the city of Jerusalem.
