France invades Algeria (12 feb 1830 anni – 11 apr 1847 anni)

In a move designed to rally popular support, Charles X used an invasion of Algeria in an attempt to garner public support and rally nationalism. However, France did not anticipate Algerians rising up in response, and the war lasted until 1847, costing France more money than they had planned for. This also marked a rise in French colonialism throughout the 19th century and the beginning of the scramble for Africa.
