Tokugawa Shogunate (21 ottob 1603 anni – 3 gen 1867 anni)
Descrizione:
The Tokugawa shogunate prevented Japan from returning to civil war by controlling the daimyos, or territorial lords who ruled most of Japan. This was done by forcing them to reside in the castle town of Edo for 6 months every year. Interaction with the outside world was extremely limited during this time in Japan, due to the fact the shogunate feared that interaction with Europe would cause civil war in Japan. Many competing philosophies existed in Japan, including Neo-Confucianism, Native Learning, Christianity, and Dutch Learning. Even though Japan was mostly closed off from the outside world during this period, the Tokugawa shogunate was able to bring a time of peace and stability to Japan. (4.1)(4.2)(4.3)
