The Mughal dynasty founded in India by Zahir al-Din Muhammad, also known as Babur, was an Islamic empire. Like all Islamic empires of the time it was founded and defended using gunpowder weapons. At times it was a very tolerant empire and at others it was extremely restricting. During the reign of Akbar, tolerance was at an all time high with the abolishment of the Jizya and the encouragement of religious exploration. During the reign of Aurangzeb, however, the Jizya returned and Hindu temples began to be destroyed, leading to rebellions led by Hindus. The Mughal dynasty fell due to economic downfall, religious tensions, and a weakening military. (4.2)(4.3)
