Sargon the Great (1 gen 2334 anni a. C. – 31 dic 2279 anni a. C.)
Descrizione:
The reign of Sargon, first king of Akkad, according to the Middle Chronology of the Near East.
The actual length of his reign is a subject of much dispute and different lengths have been provided by various king lists of Sumer. Estimates range from 37 up to 56 years as king.
After founding, or possibly just rebuilding, the city of Akkad Sargon went on to conquer 34 cities between the Mediterranean Sea in the northwest and the Persian Gulf in the southwest. In doing so he united the peoples of Mesopotamia for the first time. Neighbouring kingdoms such as Elam were made to pay tribute and help fund his conquests.
Primary sources from this time period are rare and it is sometimes unclear whether stories about Sargon are true or whether they are myths. That being said, there is little doubt that he existed and that he achieved extraordinary success.
