Jefferson Presidency
Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1801 – March 4, 1809. In 1796, Jefferson ran for presidency against John Adams, whom he lost to which made him the vice president. Jefferson ran again against Adams in the election of 1800 which turned into a battle between Democratic-Republicans and the Federalists. Jefferson beat Adams in this election, but tied with another Democratic Republican, Aaron Burr. The House of Representatives voted to break the tie and Jefferson won the election. Congress then passes the 12th amendment to make sure this never happens again.
