The Whiskey Rebellion was an uprising led by farmers who were upset by the taxation of Whiskey developed by the government. Hamilton suggested that the government put tax on Whiskey in order to help stabilize the government from the debt developed during the Revolutionary War. Many, included President George Washington, were opposed to the tax, and some even refused to pay it. Additionally, people hazed tax collectors and even went as far as to tar and feather them. After the rebel antics got out of hand, Washington sent over 12,000 troops to stop them, extinguishing any violence.
