Modernist Period (1 gen 1901 anni – 1 gen 1945 anni)
Descrizione:
Religion took a turn in Britain with the rising movement of Protestant Christianity in the modernist period. These protestant groups often denied the doctrines that had come to define and have a hold over Christianity. During this time writer’s drew from traditions of the church to find ways in which to make an experience that went beyond a sense of duty or responsibility to ones religion. With these traditions they wrote about the issues that plagued Christianity like distrust by trying build personal relationships between the people. Many writers took to it as a form of experimentation in their works sometimes breaching into uncharted territory. In Orlando this came in the form of the character forming personal relationships herself through her writings in the beginning and with her husband later on. In her story Virginia Woolf tries to build relationships by talking about life and if it really changes or if it stays the same no matter how life on the outside changes.
