Victorians placed strong emphasis on scientific discoveries such as those by Charles Darwin. Victorian authors birthed some of the world’s most famous fictional monstrosities. The Victorian era brought a mountain of political changes thus shaping the culture and literature of the time. The industrial revolution had taken root, citizens were experiencing unprecedented political involvement as well as regulation, and famine ran rampant during the era. The Victorian era gave way to a new type of literature catering to a younger audience. The era attempted to reclaim the past a pay homage to the times of Knights and castles. The British began smashing the mold of the perfect tale with a happy ending. The rise of realistic writing styles took flight.
