The date is the day it began- The US greatly feared the idea that if the communist influence reaches a certain country, all the other countries will turn to communism as well. This is what is known as the DOMINO THEORY. Fear of the ideas of this theory is what drove the US to fight in Vietnam and push their liberal ideas. However, since this war was essentially based on fear, many in the army felt that this war was unjustified and many suffered because they did not know what they were fighting for. Those in Vietnam also had complex tunnel systems that gave them a great advantage against the US soldiers.
