The Townshend Act (15 giug 1767 anni – 2 lugl 1767 anni)

Descrizione:

Because the Stamp Act had already been repealed, the British imposed taxes on imported goods from England. Such items include tea, lead, paper, paint, and glass. The Colonists rebelled by boycotting British goods, smuggling in their own goods, then finally rallying together not to pay the duties at all. Because of the boycotting, British businesses were negatively affected. In the end, the British parliament repealed all duties on its products except for tea.

** Named after Charles Townsend, the Chancellor of Exchequer, who proposed the program.**
