This was a voter registration drive in Mississippi sponsored by organizations like the Congress on Racial Equality and the Student Non-violent Coordinating committee. The KKK did much harm and murder during these months but blacks still continued. The cause was because of lack of voting in the black population in the South. A major effect of this was that the violence that occurred during Freedom Summer shocked many people around the nation.
