Communist Insurgency & Emergency Period (16 giug 1948 anni – 12 lugl 1960 anni)

The Malayan Communist party envisioned the establishment of an independent communist state, so they initiated guerilla attacks against the British colonisers by destroying plantations, mines, and buildings. Since insurance did not cover damages to property or businesses due to war, the British declared an emergency and launched a counterattack to put an end to the communist movement. They established new villages, provided rations, and conducted communal cooking to prevent communist sympathisers from providing food supplies to the resistance. Curfews and spot checks were conducted to further immobilise them. The battles that broke out during this period resulted in many fatalities. During this period, the British schemed the arrest of left-wing party members under the pretext of suspicion of being communists or communist sympathisers in order to eliminate opposition towards their colonisation or agenda for a Malayan “independence”.
