The Doha Round is the latest round of trade negotiations among the WTO membership. It aims to achieve major reform of the international trading system through the introduction of lower trade barriers and revised trade rules. With the expansion of the WTO membership to more developing countries, around 100 implementation issues were raised in the lead-up to the Doha Ministerial Conference. From its initial goal of trade regulation, the WTO now places a greater emphasis on ensuring the developing countries to secure a share of world trade commensurate with the needs of their economic development.
