First, Korea was split in two, North Korea, occupied by Russia, and South Korea, occupied by America. North Korea tried to invade South Korea, which many feared was the first step to a communist take over. The war, at first, was trying to get the invaders out of South Korea, but soon got a new goal, to liberate North Korea from Communists. After a fear years of fighting, the war reached a stalemate, each side agreed to a ceasefire, and after a few months of negotiating, both sides signed an armistice on June 27, 1953.
