During the Elizabethan period, Queen Elizabeth ruled in England. She was on of Henry VIII´s daughters and took over the throne in 1558. Being a woman was very controversial during this time and many citizens thought that she should get married, but she never did. For that reason, she was called the Virgin Queen. During the time she was ruling, she was a role model for many people and besides that also a fashion icon.

Elizabeth was a brilliant survivor on her own despite that she had all the odds against her. She was ruling for almost half a century (44 years) and thanks to her, England became a super power. Later, she also became a national symbol for England.

English Renaissance theatre, also known as Renaissance English theatre and Elizabethan theatre, refers to the theatre of England between 1562 and 1642. It was built with permission by Elizabeth.
This is the style of the plays of William Shakespeare and others.
