John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry (16 ottob 1859 anni – 18 ottob 1859 anni)

Descrizione:

In October of 1859, John Brown, a radical abolitionist, led a raid on a federal arsenal in Harpers Ferry. Brown wanted to arm slaves in order to start a revolt. His raid ultimately failed after two days, and Brown along with six others were tried for treason and hanged.

John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry is significant because it demonstrated how far some Northerners were willing to take their beliefs. The North condemned Brown's actions, but the South was never convinced. John Brown really opened the eyes of all citizens on either side that the country is facing a great deal of conflict.

“I have only a short time to live, only one death to die, and I will die fighting for this cause. There will be no peace in this land until slavery is done for."
