Queen Elizabeth, I ruled during the Elizabethan Period and ruled for almost half a century. She was one of Henry VIII:s daughters. Queen Elizabeth I’s reign was sometimes referred to as the Golden Age or Elizabethan England. It was a period of peace and prosperity when the arts had a chance to blossom with Elizabeth's support. England unified stability and became a superpower. During the Elizabethan period, England had a strong naval power that defeated the Spanish Armada and she managed to established Protestantism in England. The trade and commerce flourished. Withal the exploration and colonialism were two crucial factors for the expanding of England. In 1559, London was the largest city in Europe with a population of 200 000. It doubled in 50 years.

Elizabeth I is a national symbol because she showed a lot of strength and decisive leadership during her rule. She had a strong will and determination in keeping the power. Elizabeth was well educated and loved fine clothing and jewelry. Her fashion sense made her a role model and a fashion icon in England. Elizabeth I never married someone and is today known as the “Virgin Queen”. The English dynasty and the Tudor family died when she passed away because she did not have any children or a husband. The Elizabethan Age is considered a great age in literary history, particularly for drama. Under the rule of Elizabeth I, the drama was a unified expression as far as social class was concerned. According to me, the flowering of Elizabethan drama was due in part to the burst of patriotic confidence and national identity that erupted after England’s victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588.
