Descrizione:
The Athenian leader Cleisthenes introduced a system of political reforms that he called demokratia, or “rule by the people". It was divided into three separate institutions - a sovereign governing body, a council of representatives, and a popular court where citizens argued cases before a group of people. Majority of the people were excluded from this democratic government.
Contributions to Classical Liberalism:
The Greeks had the radical idea that citizens had power and a voice. This illustrates the principle of individual rights and freedoms of classical liberalism because citizens had the right to vote and the freedom of speech.
