The battle of the Atlantic was the longest continuous battle of World War 2. This naval battle took place on the Northern region of the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the coast of the US. This battle was fought between the Allies and the Axis powers, who both wanted the control of the Atlantic Ocean. Over the first few years of the war, the Axis Power had an advantage as they had access to the UBoats, an underwater submarine. The U-Boats were a very strong weapon as they left the Allies not knowing what do to, resulting in a loss of hundreds of ships. The allies tried to counter the U Boats with convoys; however, that was not successful. in 1943, the allies had broken the German's secret codes and developed new technologies to fight against the submarines, The allies also invented a radar which helped them spot where the ships were located. Hedgehog, an underwater bomb also helped destroy the U-Boats. By the middle of 1943, the battle had turned in a favour of the Allies, resulting in their victory in 1945. Appreciations to the United States who supplied Great Britain with soldiers and weapons which helped to keep the Germans from taking over all of Western Europe.
