Middle Ages (5 agos 400 anni – 23 magg 1400 anni)
Descrizione:
Men wore simple wool or linen tunics and long stockings
Women wore tunics over long gowns
Goatskin and sheepskin outer garments provided protection in cold weather.
As people became more prosperous distinguishing the rich from the commoners became less noticeable.
Men wore knee-length pants called breeches and women’s gowns had a fitted bodice, a very full skirt, and long, full sleeves.
Because nobility felt threatened when the middle class imitated upper class fashions, sumptuary laws were created.
These laws controlled what each social class could wear.
Punishment included fines, imprisonment and death.
