Created the idea that Andrew Jackson was a “king” (not good!!!!). Anti-Andrew Jackson. Founded by Henry Clay and created officially in 1834. To oppose Andrew Jackson and democrats. Whigs stood for protective tariffs, national banking, did not want slavery to expand in the western territories, and federal aid for internal improvements. When Henry Clay dies, it will start the collapse of this political party. He was an extremely powerful person in congress and so having him be a whig party member was very important for the whig party.
