Since the 1990's, society has worked towards empowering individuals with disabilities. Now seen as citizens with a right to an education just like everyone else, individuals with disabilities have been granted specialized high-resource education plans intended to raise each individual to their fullest potential. Individuals with disabilities are no longer viewed as inferior, and the current changes in legislation reflect societies desire to re-integrate these individuals back into society and the general education system. Legislation also reflects societal desires to aid individuals with disabilities in not only completing their education but also successfully transitioning to an independent adult life.
