Alchemists were a mix of many things. They were part philosopher, part chemist, and even part magician. The alchemist were the first people to do experiments based on their theories. The alchemists had three main beliefs. They believed some elements could be converted into other elements. Another belief they had was that they could find some sort of substance that would give them eternal life. Finally the believed that they could make a solvent capable of dissolving all substances. Since they believed that some elements could be changed into others they attempted to turn common metals like lead or tin into more valuable ones like gold.
