The 1990s was the age of wealth due to:
-Expensive Hollywood stars
-Blockbuster appeal
-Experimental SFX
-Spiralling production costs
-Costly market research
During the period of wealth, independant film peaked. The SFX were better than ever because of films like Titanic. Although CGI had increased in quality dramatically, only certain directors were worth the cost of it. Soon, in the progression of technology, it meant that virtually any filmmaker could use CGI or SFX.
Anyone could use CGI and was widely used, resulting in its ability became mainstream so its impressive nature in being able to create almost anything, wore off.
