The Enlightenment (29 magg 1677 anni – 29 gen 1799 anni)
Descrizione:
Also known as the age of reason, the Enlightenment was sparked by the Renaissance and Reformation. The enlightenment began a shared train of thought from the revival of Greek and Roman thinking that many European scholars picked up. Thinkers such as John Locke, Adam Smith and Jean-Jacques Rousseau were those who influenced the changing of mindsets towards what was important. People began to believe in the importance of art, literature and individual belief alongside religion. Philosophers began to share such ideas, and common citizens gained more knowledge about liberalism and the right to a less dictatorial government.
Different enlightenment thinkers had different ideas, but many found the government to be in the wrong in one way or another. They influenced a push for self-interest, private property, and individual rights by pointing out human potential. The enlightenment presented ideas about individuals capabilities, and how the collective benefitted from individuals working for themselves.
