Henry II (19 dic 1154 anni – 6 lugl 1189 anni)
Descrizione:
King Stephen came to an agreement with Matilda in November 1153 with the signing of the Treaty of Wallingford, where Stephen recognised Matilda's son Henry as their heir, over Stephen's own son Eustace. Henry had married Eleanor of Aquitaine in 1152 to increase his Angevin holdings. He wanted to restore the lands held by his father Henry and continually came into conflict with Louis VII of France. In 1173 he faced the Great Revolt from his sons, Eleanor, and rebellious barons. Henry had wanted to divide his lands among his sons (Henry the Young King taking England and Normandy, and Richard the Lionheart taking Aquitaine). The sons and Eleanor allied themselves with Louis but the revolt failed and the sons were forced to beg forgiveness. (Eleanor remained prisoner.) Henry the Young King died in 1183 and Richard became heir. He continued to spar with his father over the fate of Aquitaine, which Henry wanted for youngest son John. Richard allied himself with Phillippe II and successfully defeated his father in battle in 1189. Henry died shortly after.
