while never a cohesive movement, this era is often referred to as proto-punk due to the fact that when Punk formed as its own genre this was the style it derived from, despite the fact that it includes many bands with different sounds, they all tie together when it comes to often confronting taboo topics and generally being quite unpolished if not aggressive.
