Colonial Governments (1 gen 1605 anni – 31 dic 1776 anni)

Descrizione:

There are three types of systems used within the colonial government: Charter colony, Proprietary colony, and Royal colony. A charter colony is formed when the British king grants a charter to a trading company. The colony can decide what type of government they want. A proprietary colony includes Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania along with others who adopted the Proprietary colony. The king gave land to one person and he gave permission to establish a government on the land. The royal colony was under the direct supervision of the British Crown. Out of the thirteen colonies, only eight were royal colonies. The legislature consisted of two branches, the lower house (people elected delegates) and the upper house (council, appointed by the governor).

Obviously, the colonial governments have an impact on the US government since they were established for the original thirteen colonies. There are, however, some other influences when it comes to today's government. Some of these influences include the right to vote and religious freedom. In colonial America, each state had different laws that regulated voting. Today, everyone can vote regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic class. Freedom of religion is a hallmark of today's government. The colonies were religiously diverse and each individual colony often exercised enormous power over religious expression.
