The Irish Revolution (22 apr 1916 anni – 25 marzo 1917 anni)
Descrizione:
The Irish Revolt or the Easter Rising was a hastily planned revolt against the British primarily focused around Dublin. The primary cause of it was the stagnation of the Home Rule Act as Unionists continued to assault and insult the bill in Parliament. In early 1916, the British government announced another series of meetings to help decide the fate of Ulster and, now fearing a divided Ireland, the Irish Republicans began to organize to rebel.
Violence began in Dublin and multiple other Irish cities on Easter week, but only ramped up when the Royal Irish Constabulary began to shoot at unarmed civilians in Belfast. That shooting and other events like it soon prompted over ten thousand Irishmen to take up arms for Ireland.
Irish failure has been attributed to a variety of factors in most histories. The first and most obvious was overwhelming British superiority, Irish troops hardly could compete with their British counterparts and so were forced to right a vicious guerrilla campaign. The second and more compelling was a series of civilian victories as the Irish Parliamentary Party secured Irish autonomy through the Parliament, killing the primary message and issue of the Irish rebels.
