The Polish Campaign (30 ottob 1914 anni – 21 marzo 1915 anni)
Descrizione:
Upon the collapse of the invading Russian forces, the German 8th was tasked with invading Poland to make sure the victory lasted. Requests for assistance were also sent to the Austrian command, but Hapsburg commanders proved obstinate in demanding that the Germans take the first move as they feared losing their defensive position in Galicia.
And so Paul von Hindenburg was tasked with securing a reassuring victory for the people at home and in Vienna. The Battle of Narew was just such a victory. The Russian 4th Army had several divisions destroyed entirely as General Evert's indecisive orders on where to position his troops quickly cost them the crossing and high ground at Różan.
With this victory secured, the Austrians began their own campaign into Poland, with the Austrian 1st Army securing a pyrrhic victory at Lublin.
The Austrian campaign merely weakened their position in Galicia and Translyvania, a mistake they would pay for.
