1862: Joseph R. Walker leads the Walker Party through the territory for exploration purposes. (1 gen 1862 anni – 1 gen 1862 anni)

Descrizione:

After the Beale Wagon Road was established, little exploration was accomplished in the Prescott area, with one excerpt stating, "No expedition had thoroughly explored this area until the old trapper and hunter, Capt. Joseph R. Walker led his expedition into Central Arizona in 1861. However, his party was so harassed by Indians that they continued east into New Mexico and hence to Colorado with an Indian hunting party under the famed Kit Carson."

In 1862, the Walker party, led by the well renowned explorer and fur trapper Joseph R. Walker, returned to Arizona to look for gold. The Union Army carefully tracked and observed the party to ensure that Walker did not have any hidden Confederate motives concerning the minerals located in Prescott. Walker and his party stationed themselves around Fort Whipple and began the search for gold.
