The Second Opium Wa (1856–1860) was fought by Britain and France against China to expand trade rights. China lost, and the war ended with treaties in 1858 and 1860, which:
- Opened more ports to foreign trade.
- Allowed foreign diplomats in Beijing.
- Legalized opium trade.
This weakened China’s Qing Dynasty and increased foreign control over China.
