The first atomic bomb, nicknamed "Little Boy," was dropped on Hiroshima from the B-29 bomber "Enola Gay" at 8:15 AM on August 6, 1945. The second bomb, nicknamed "Fat Man," was dropped on Nagasaki from the B-29 bomber "Bockscar" at 11:02 AM on August 9, 1945. Japan announced its surrender to the Allies on August 15, six days after the bombing of Nagasaki and the Soviet Union's declaration of war against Japan.
