The Late Heavy Bombardment (LHB) (1 gen 4500000 anni a. C. – 1 gen 3800000 anni a. C.)
Descrizione:
The late heavy bombardment was a period of time where mass amounts of asteroid and comet impacts occurred on a frequent basis. This due to the amount of debris leftover from the formation of the solar system (4). This has helped form many of the early earth's spheres, such as the hydrosphere and biosphere. Since many of the debris that were hitting the Earth, specifically comets, were rich in water and ice, these impacts likely contributed to the amount of water the early Earth had, helping to form oceans (4). The theory of panspermia also suggests that organic molecules such as amino acids could have survived these harsh conditions of these comets and asteroids slamming into Earth. This meant that these asteroids and comets provided the building blocks for life, eventually developing Earth's early biosphere.
