Chemin des Dames Offensive (16 apr 1917 anni – 29 apr 1917 anni)
Descrizione:
The Chemin des Dames offensive was a major French attack during World War I that was part of the larger Nivelle Offensive, named after French Commander-in-Chief Robert Nivelle, who planned the operation. The French aimed to capture the strategically important Chemin des Dames ridge, an 80 km east-west ridge located 110 km northeast of Paris, however the offensive resulted in catastrophic losses for the French. By the end of the battle, French casualties had risen to approximately 187,000, while German losses were around 163,000. This failure had poor outcomes for the French Army, leading to widespread mutinies in many infantry divisions
