Germany launched a swift and decisive campaign, known as the "Blitzkrieg", invading and conquering much of Western Europe, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France, leading to their defeat and occupation. The Netherlands surrenders on May 14; and Belgium surrenders on May 28.
